Post II Baarn
Post II Baarn
Post II Baarn
Kit of the former Post II station in Baarn. Scale H0. Made in small numbers from precision laser-cut components made of MDF, resin board, and acrylic.
Baarn used to have two stations: the still-existing Baarn station on the Oosterspoorweg railway line from Amsterdam to the east, and the local station (nowadays De Generaal restaurant) as the terminus of the line to Utrecht.
The signals at Oosterspoorweg station were primarily operated from the signal box west of the station, Post I. There were also two smaller signal boxes: Post II at the level crossing on Lt. Gen. Van Heutszlaan and Post III at the level crossing on Torenlaan. In 1959, the old mechanical light signals were replaced by modern light signals. With them the signal boxes disappeared too.
There are hardly any photos of Post II and Post III, and certainly no color ones. So what the buildings actually looked like is something of an educated guess. The model in this kit won't be 100% accurate, but—as far as I can tell—it comes pretty close.
Although Post II and Post III are often referred to as "signal posts," they appear to have been posts for controlling the level crossings. The signals in the yard would have been centrally controlled from Post I. In short, Post II is an interesting piece of forgotten railway history that should not be missing from any Dutch model railway up to and including Era III.
