KNLS - 3rd Class Station
The Apeldoorn-Zwolle railway line ('Baronnenlijn') was constructed between 1887 and 1889 by the Royal Dutch Local Railway Company (Koninklijke Nederlandsche Locaalspoorweg-Maatschappij - KNLS). The line earned its nickname Baronnenlijn (Barons' Line) due to the many (noble) dignitaries who lived in the towns along the railway.
In 1913, a branch line from Hattem to Kampen Zuid was added. This line quickly proved unprofitable and was closed in 1933. In 1950, passenger transport on the rest of the Baronnenlijn was also discontinued. The former railway line is now largely asphalted and used as a cycle path.
Mainly standard KNLS stations were built along the railway line. Het Loo received a unique design in 1886. In Apeldoorn and Hattemerbroek, existing stations of the HSM and NCS respectively were used. Epe, Heerde, and Hattem received large 1st class station buildings.
In Vaassen, a standard 2nd class station building was constructed. Emst and Wapenveld received a 3rd class station building. Kampen Zuid received a station building in 1913 in the style common to the HSM. This building was demolished after just over twenty years. Except for the station buildings of Wapenveld, Heerde, and Vaassen, all buildings were demolished after the closure of the Baronnenlijn in the early 1970s.
Each station had its own integrated goods shed. Two stations, Epe and Heerde, received separate goods sheds. The sheds differ in a few details but generally share the same design.
